Bio

Practice

Max Meyer’s work focuses on image forms and aesthetic routines that have often existed at the margins of cultural attention. At its core lies an inquiry into the visual orders operating within the everyday and the notions of taste, value, and belonging that become inscribed in them.

Image worlds long considered too banal, too decorative, or too ordinary emerge here as productive fields of investigation. They arise outside established aesthetic hierarchies and are closely tied to private gestures, popular ideas of beauty, and amateur modes of production.

A closer look reveals that such surfaces and motifs function as complex repositories of collective and individual experience. They accumulate ideas of normality, care, identity, and social belonging. They reflect cultural expectations as well as informal forms of knowledge that rarely appear in explicit discourse. Meyer’s work engages these layers to reveal how intricate the visual culture of the seemingly insignificant can be.
